EmpowHERment

I was granted the opportunity to volunteer at a Back to School EmpowHERment event geared towards young girls, 8th-12th grade, in the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system. My job, document with my camera. The event was birthed from a vision of one of my dear friends, Carrie Cook. And she made it happen. There were over 100 girls to attend, led by an amazing group of motivated women craving an opportunity to mentor and empowHER, young ladies in our local school system. The event included a panel of successful, independent, and focused women telling their struggles and triumphs with self esteem, education, growth, and womanhood. Also included was an physical activity session educate the girls on fitness through dance, a drama/expressions session, various group activities and educational sessions, and closing with journaling/meditation.

All of the volunteers were there to empowHER our youth, but I can't help but to acknowledge the way that I was impacted by my time soaking in the energy of theses other women and the presence of these girls. I can't remember the last time I was so touched by such an BEAUTIFUL and EXTRAORDINARY group of women and girls. Now there's something for POSITIVE news.
